Review of the Reserves

UPDATE 28 APR 09: MoD statement including links to ministerial announcement

A "strategic review" of the United Kingdom's reserve forces was carried out over the course of last year under the leadership of Major General Nick Cottam and the outcome is expected to be announced to Parliament before the end of April 2009.

The principal UK reserve forces comprise the Royal Naval Reserve, Royal Marines Reserve, Territorial Army, and Royal Auxiliary Air Force. There are also individual reservists from the three services who retain reserve liability following their regular service.

Several of the recommendations are thought likely to relate to reservists' Terms and Conditions of Service (TACOS), with the stated aim of improving the reservist's TACOS and aligning them more closely where appropriate with those of his or her regular counterpart.

Following the announcement BAFF will be consulting its members, especially those who are currently serving in the reserve forces, and will be prepared to comment further on this website and through other channels.
